About “Whole Sight”

I’m Randy Burgess, and this blog reflects my interests and predilections as a writer and humanist - for example, in the question of how we can integrate personal freedom with societal responsibility. The title of the blog comes from the opening sentence of “Daniel Martin,” a novel by John Fowles that expresses a similar theme: “Whole sight; or all the rest is desolation.”

You’ll find here short posts and full-fledged articles on various topics related to mindfulness, cognitive bias, positive culture change, and conflict resolution. You’ll also find PDFs of articles and essays I’ve published in magazines and newspapers - these can be easily browsed as a collection via the Articles category.

Also, from time to time you may see an “Events” link on the top menu - I use this to squeeze in things like descriptions of any locally based workshops I’m offering. It’s hard to completely compartmentalize a writer’s life - the writing is always spilling over into teaching or learning or advocating.

The photo at top is a view of the west side of Manhattan down around the latitude of Greenwich Village, where we live winters; it was taken from one of the converted piers of the Hudson River Park. To learn more about what I do as a writer, editor, and book doctor, visit raburgess.com.
